ABOUT PEARWOOD THERAPY SERVICES PLLC

In today’s world, there is nothing more important than the ability to communicate. Our goal is to help your child master the fundamental communication skills that are necessary to build connections and relationships with others.

We offer resources, consultations/screenings, evaluations, and individualized treatment sessions to help your child reach his/her full potential. We utilize a family-focused approach and encourage family members to be active participants to enhance the skills they already have and increase confidence to implement new strategies learned.  We strongly believe in consistent communication with the families and also make it a priority to collaborate with the other professionals (e.g. OT, PT, BCBA) that are working with your child. Through a collaborative approach, we aim to treat the “whole child” and feel this is a critical component in successful therapy.

We have a passion for working with children and continue to strive to make a positive difference in children’s lives. Let’s maximize your child’s communication potential together!

COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION

An evaluation is required before beginning speech and language therapy to gain a comprehensive understanding of your child’s skill level and identify area(s) of need. Pearwood Therapy Services uses a variety of assessment tools to diagnose the presence of a speech or language delay/disorder. Evaluations use a combination of background information, parent interviews and information, observation(s), performance-based assessments, and standardized testing. Pearwood Therapy Services will provide a detailed report including a discussion of findings and recommendations. Below are the areas and focuses of assessments:

Articulation/Phonology Assessment:  Evaluates a client’s speech-sound productions using formal and informal measures to assess if there are distorted speech-sound productions of errored sound patterns.

Stuttering Assessment:  Evaluates a child’s speech using formal and informal assessment measures to identify stuttering and determine the severity of stuttering.

Expressive/Receptive Language Assessment:  Contains formal and informal measures to assess a client’s language abilities. Examples of areas evaluated include vocabulary, grammar, syntax, narrative skills, comprehension, and inferencing.

Pragmatics/Social Language Assessment:  Includes multiple formal and informal measures of a client’s skills and knowledge during social interactions and conversations.

INDIVIDUAL SPEECH THERAPY

Sessions are 30-45 minutes long, depending on the client's needs and attention span. We always take time to discuss the session and homework with the client or parents (for clinic or home sessions), or to send parents a detailed note including the activities we did and how to complete the homework (for daycare or ABA center sessions).
